Year 7

Core PE

  • At Key Stage 3, pupils have two lessons of PE per week. During lessons, pupils will experience a wide range of activities (12 activities per academic year). The curriculum is designed around 6 core strands. The learning strands show progression throughout key stage 3, but they are not restricted to a particular year group. Therefore, entry points from our learning sequence can be accessed at any point. The strands are designed to encourage both Physical and mental intellect.

  • Applies fundamental skills in competitive situations confidently and consistently

    Consistently makes the successful decisions when reacting in competitive situations

    Compares strengths and weaknesses of peers’ performance using key terminology

    Explain the short- and long-term effects of exercise showing an understanding of how to bring about the changes

    Confidently leads groups through elements of warm-ups and cool-downs

    Inspires others to show sportsmanship by taking the lead when demonstrating in competitive situations

    Understands the benefits of a warmup. (Body temperature, muscle temperature, flexibility of muscles and joints, pliability of ligaments and tendons, speed of contractions, HR, blood flow to working muscles oxygen to muscles)

    Understand the benefits of a cool down (removal of waste products, Transition back to resting HR, reducing the risk of injury)

    Build on existing knowledge of short-term and long-term effects of exercise

  • Help promote physical activity by getting children happily involved in physical activity by making it fun and by making it something that everyone can benefit from not just athletes but families.  There is a proven link between physical activity and classroom accomplishment; there is no question that Physical Education should be an everyday part of every child’s education during school hours and outside.
