Year 8

Core PE

  • At Key Stage 3, pupils have two lessons of PE per week. During lessons, pupils will experience a wide range of activities (12 activities per academic year). The curriculum is designed around 6 core strands. The learning strands show progression throughout key stage 3, but they are not restricted to a particular year group. Therefore, entry points from our learning sequence can be accessed at any point. The strands are designed to encourage both Physical and mental intellect.

  • Performs core skills linked together with some control in competitive games

    Develops tactics in game situations

    Compare performances of peers showing some understanding of cause, effect, and consequence

    Understand some of the components of fitness and how they are required for a range of sports

    Carry out a range of officiating roles showing some knowledge of the rules and procedures

    Know the difference between gamesmanship and sportsmanship showing positivity when winning or losing

    Understand the following Health related components of fitness and how they are required for a range of sports.

    Cardiovascular endurance: The ability of the heart, lungs, and blood to transfer Oxygen

    Flexibility: The range of movement at a joint

    Muscular Endurance: The ability to use voluntary muscles repeatedly without tiring

    Muscular strength: The amount of force a muscle can exert against resistance.

  • Help promote physical activity by getting children happily involved in physical activity by making it fun and by making it something that everyone can benefit from not just athletes but families.  There is a proven link between physical activity and classroom accomplishment; there is no question that Physical Education should be an everyday part of every child’s education during school hours and outside.
