Year 9

Core PE

  • At Key Stage 3, pupils have two lessons of PE per week. During lessons, pupils will experience a wide range of activities (12 activities per academic year). The curriculum is designed around 6 core strands. The learning strands show progression throughout key stage 3, but they are not restricted to a particular year group. Therefore, entry points from our learning sequence can be accessed at any point. The strands are designed to encourage both Physical and mental intellect.

  • Fluently transfers advanced skills across competitive situations showing originally in performances

    Create and use strategies and analyse during performance so changes can be made with a positive effect on performance

    Evaluate peers’ performances to justify why imaginative practices can be used to bring about improvements.

    Produce a detailed training programme that demonstrates a thorough understanding of the Principles of Training

    Demonstrate all the skills and qualities confidently to motivate others when leading skill-developing practices

    Demonstrate many characteristics of a strong role model in a range of situations, influencing others in a positive manner

    Understand Types of training and their benefits:

    Continuous training develops cardiovascular fitness (A minimum of 20 minutes of sub-maximal work).

    Fartlek:(Changes in speed, incline and terrain are used to provide changes in exercise intensity).

    HIIT (High-intensity interval training)

  • Help promote physical activity by getting children happily involved in physical activity by making it fun and by making it something that everyone can benefit from not just athletes but families.  There is a proven link between physical activity and classroom accomplishment; there is no question that Physical Education should be an everyday part of every child’s education during school hours and outside.
